Install the chatbot on WordPress

Add an AI chatbot to your WordPress website in a few minutes, without touching your theme's code.

1 min read

This guide shows you how to add your chatbot's widget to a WordPress website, with a free plugin and without editing your theme's files.

Before you start

1

Install the WPCode plugin

  1. In the WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin.
  2. Search for WPCode (Insert Headers and Footers), then click Install Now and Activate.

On WordPress.com, installing plugins is only possible on a plan that allows them.

2

Paste the code in the footer

  1. In the left menu, open Code Snippets → Header & Footer.
  2. Paste the embed code in the Footer box.
  3. Save.

The widget now shows on every page of your website.

Tip: avoid pasting the code directly into your theme's footer.php file: it would be wiped by the next theme update. The plugin keeps the code whatever the theme.

3

Check on your website

Open your website in a private browsing window: the chat bubble should appear in the corner chosen in Settings. If you use a cache plugin, clear its cache first.

The widget doesn't show?

  • Cache plugin (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, W3 Total Cache…): clear the cache, then reload the page.
  • "Delay JavaScript execution" option: with this setting, the widget only appears after the visitor's first scroll or click. To show it on page load, add chatbotmaker.fr/embed/chatbot.js to that option's exclusions.
  • Allowed sites: if you filled them in, check that your website's domain is in the list.
  • Check that the chatbot is Live in the Deploy tab.
